Dear DIEry; health insurance for the self employed or unemployed or undeserving? Everyone needs help in staying healthy and let's face it, if you ain't got your health, you got nothing! If you are unable to get health insurance for whatever reasons, here are a few good tips.
Join your local Chamber of Commerce. In Las Vegas they have a policy running about $400 monthly and does not require a physical to qualify for. The requirements for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce is however that you have a legitimate business enterprise in Las Vegas and pay the annual $500 fee for membership.
But these are low costs considering most doctors in Nevada won't even let you in their doors unless you have some form of insurance and hospitals will only take and treat your immediate death threatening ailment before they kick you to the streets. This is something I have experienced on several occasions first hand and I wouldn't recommend testing this out yourself.
Another option should you not be gainfully employed, would be joining a national non-profit organization who happens to have group policies available to their membership. I have been a member of the JACL (Japanese American Citizens League) for several years now. Though the base of the group is a civil rights for Asian Americans, it is mostly a social group with activities and benefits which do not require you to be Asian or American to join. The membership is only $20 a year for local chapters, but I believe a national membership of $70 is required to get the health insurance and other group benefits.
I for one believe in following the Hippocratic Oath which in part says, "I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure." and forthwith I am a wellness consultant with Nikken and teach, learn and implement healthy awareness, products, and overall wellness into my daily life to provide for the long term cure. Yes, it is a network marketing or otherwise known as a multilevel marketing company, however this is where it can create similar or even better results than your typical health insurance plan. By participating in the business aspects of the company at a nominal level, you will be able to get huge discounts on the products you use yourself and with a little more effort, you can get them for free or have the company pay you to take their products. Nikken is the only health and wellness company which encompass your total environment, not just a daily vitamin or supplement juice.
